Just up the road from the Hopewell Rocks we met a fantastically funny menopausal woman from Newfoundland working in a gift shop.
Her stories and laughter renewed our disappointment that we didn’t get over to the rock. She warned us, “You never go over in Aw-gust. Every dog and devil goes home in Aw-gust. The ferries is nuts in Aw-gust!” She then goes on to tell us of the Kitchen Parties that go on in August. “Oh, you just gotta go!” “If anyone offers you white beer, don’t drink it. Turnip beer, it is. I missed a whole Christmas one year.”
She was hilarious. Once again we all stood there talking with her and missed a perfectly good photo-op of our only touch of Newfoundland. We will have to go back.
